33 departments of the northwest to the Paris basin are now placed in orange alert for Sunday afternoon, issued by Meteo France. Vigilance has however been lifted for four departments: Calvados, Manche, Orne and Sarthe.
Météo-France has placed an orange alert on an additional nine departments Sunday afternoon, bringing to 33 the total number of departments of the western and central France affected by this alert storms and high winds.
Warning early in Vendée
Vigilance has however been lifted for four departments: Calvados, Manche, Orne and Sarthe.
Nine new departments were placed on orange alert due to a strong gust of wind expected Monday on a western part of France: Allier, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Creuse, Deux-Sèvres, Vendée, Vienna and Upper Vienna.
In addition to the already 24 departments in vigilance since Sunday morning and where the alert remains in force: Cher, Cotes-Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Finistère, Ille-et-Vilaine, Indre, Indre-et -Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Loire-Atlantique, Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Morbihan, Oise, Paris and the inner suburbs (75-92-93-94), Seine-Maritime, Seine-et Marne, Yvelines, Essonne and Val-d’Oise.
“Risks of intense phenomena”
This vigilance relates in part a stormy wave accompanied by wind gusts, active until Sunday evening. An event that “does not present a remarkable character” but “however, the risk of intense phenomena associated mainly wind gusts, justifies particular vigilance” , according to Météo-France.
But the weather alert also provides a “strong winter storm” that will follow. This new episode of winds will start “Monday on Britain to extend rapidly to Poitou-Charentes and south of the central region” , according to the bulletin of the forecasting agency.
Continued vigilance Monday?
“An extension of vigilance is probable on the map from 6am Monday, first in line departments already in orange and the other in the Mediterranean (Var, Corsica) the next night with the shift of the depression” , warns Météo-France.
“There is still a little uncertainty about the exact track of the low but the strongest gusts will be between 100 and 110 km/h or 120km/h in punctually inland. These values will be exceeded on the coastal particularly on the Cotes d’Armor and Finistère “ , says Meteo France.
