Netflix increases the price of its subscriptions in France

The cost of the two most expensive subscriptions to the streaming platform, Netflix, increases for new users, Thursday 20th June 2019. And in a few weeks for subscribers.

Action-reaction. After testing the price increase of its subscriptions among some of its users, Netflix goes to the next step. This Thursday 20th June 2019, the standard subscription (two screens) officially passes from 10.99 to 11.99 euros (+ 9%), while the Premium subscription (four screens) increases by two euros, from 13.99 at 15.99 euros (+ 14%), we have learned, confirming information from Le Figaro .

The basic price, for a single screen, remains the same price, or 7.99 euros.

Subscribers will be notified one month before

Contacted, a spokesman for Netflix justifies these increases:

“We change our prices from time to time given the significant investments we make to offer new films, new series and improvements on our platform.”

These rate changes will be applied to all new members immediately. “Existing members (five million in France, Ed ) will be informed by email, as well as in the Netflix application, at least one month before the new prices are applied,” says the streaming platform.

The platform invests heavily in French content

In April, the firm announced to its shareholders that prices were rising in Europe . At the time, it was Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, which experienced the same increase as France today.

“Netflix continues to focus its efforts on improving its service and investing in original, local and global productions and content, in order to continue to provide the best entertainment offer to our consumers and to maintain an excellent quality-price.”

In recent years, the American company has invested heavily in original productions. Highly anticipated, the new seasons of Stranger Things and La Casa de Papel will be online respectively on July 4th and 19th.

In 2019, the streaming service would also have a couple of projects underway in France, the output of the 2nd season of the series Map heart.
