This Monday 2nd July, 2018, seven departments of the West of France are still on orange alert for thunderstorms, severe rain and floods.
Météo France has updated its national vigilance bulletin , this Monday, July 2, at 6 am. Seven departments in Brittany and the Pays de la Loire remain on orange alert while a rainy and stormy episode is in progress :
- the Côtes-d’Armor (22),
- the Finistère (29),
- the Ille-et-Vilaine (35),
- the Loire-Atlantique (44),
- the Maine-et-Loire (49),
- the Morbihan (56)
- and the Vendée (85).
In the east of the country, the Rhone is remains on an orange alert for heatwave.

Hail and gusts of wind
The stormy wave is currently easing while still circulating on the Poitou-Charentes, the Dordogne and the Limousin, from where the exit of the orange vigilance for the South-West.
According to forecasters, “storms will be accompanied by intense rainfall, giving locally 30 mm in less than an hour, or even 60 mm and more in peak”, with hail in places and some bursts under thunderstorms possible:
For the departments placed in orange concerning the parameter rain-flood, one waits locally between 40 and 60 mm even 80 mm in peak, which represents about the normal rains of a month of July.

Hot air is well established in the Lyon region, with late night temperatures around 22 degrees and a little more in places.
The weather will remain heavy during the day of Monday, with maximum temperatures between 33 and 35 degrees. The expected stormy evolution should be late, only late afternoon, and without any real certainty at the moment.
The alert is valid until 6am on Tuesday 3rd July.
