Orange Heatwave Alert Maintained and Still Thunderstorms: the Departments Under Surveillance this Friday
Yet another rise in temperatures will begin in France this Friday 7th August 2026 from the southwest. The forecast for the coming heatwave and thunderstorms
THE high heat persist in the south-east of France, which faces a very high risk fires in the forests, due to the wind. And, elsewhere, there heatwave preparing to make its return, gradually, with a peak expected next week, from Tuesday 11th August to Friday August 14th at least.
Until then, Météo France is maintaining eight departments on orange heatwave alert for this Friday 7th August 2026 and eight on yellow alert for heatwave and/or thunderstorms, even if the biggest stormy sequence in the country is expected for this weekend of Saturday 8th August and Sunday 9th August in many regions.

On the program for this weekend weather, of thunderstorms sometimes violent this weekend of Saturday 8th August and Sunday 9th August, therefore, and a rise in the mercury and heat which will further intensify next week, with, again, an increase in heatwave vigilance coming in many regions.
From Saturday, the warm air mass will rise further north
This Friday 7th August, “after a rather cool night for the season from Brittany to the Belgian borders”, warns the weather organization, temperatures will rise again from the southwest, where 30°C will generally be exceeded. On Saturday 8th August, the warm air mass will rise further north, where 30°C will also often be reached as far as Brittany, Île-de-France and the German border, and it will still be 36°C at 38°C in the South.
Sunday 9th August, stormy deterioration will affect the regions from the southwest to the northeast, then the strong heat will rise further north. With peaks of 36°C in the northern half and probably more than 40°C in the south next week!
The heatwave episode will continue this weekend of Saturday 8th August and Sunday 9th August 2026 near the Mediterranean and in the Rhône valley and will spread over a large part of France in the following days.
Locally 35°C to 39°C this Friday again, around the Mediterranean basin
This Friday promises to be summery again and largely sunny throughout the country. We will only note “a risk of stormy development” on the ridges of the Pyrenees, the border Alps and the relief of Corsica, anticipates Météo France, which also warns of the mistral which will blow up to 50-60 km/h in the South while the tramontane will be a little weaker. Peaks of 60-70 km/h are also expected on the Var coasts.
If temperatures during the night from this Thursday to Friday will be cooler, with 8°C to 15°C in general, 14°C to 18°C in the southwest and still 21°C to 25°C on the Mediterranean rim and the lower Rhône valley, they will climb in the afternoon.
The temperatures will start to rise again this weekend: it will be 25°C to 30°C degrees on the northern half, but cooler on the Channel coast, and often 30°C to 35°C degrees on the southern half, and up to locally 35°C to 39°C, again, around the Mediterranean basin.
