DEATHS: 29 fewer people died in the Charente during 2020 despite having the coronavirus Covid-19 epidemic
A 1% drop in deaths from March 1 to November 16. That is 29 fewer deaths than in 2019. According to official data from INSEE released today, Charente is seeing the second-largest drop in mortality in France, behind the solid Bretons of Côtes-d’Armor (-2%, –100 deaths) and the Gers (-1%, –15 deaths). Despite the coronavirus Covid-19 epidemic, therefore.
In France, only 7 departments will also see mortality drop in 2020. These are therefore the Côtes d’Armor, Charente, Gers, Cantal, Dordogne, Gironde and Haute-Vienne. Note that four of these seven departments are in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Conversely, in this same region, four departments have high excess mortality, between 6 and 9%. These are the Creuse, the Charente-Maritime, the Lot-et-Garonne and the Deux-Sèvres.
In Charente-Maritime, from March to November 2020, there were 353 more deaths than in 2019 (+ 6.8%). The increase is 69% (+151 deaths) in Deux-Sèvres.
