Wearing a mask will now be compulsory on the three weekly markets, on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, from Monday 3rd August 2020 in Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe).
The town hall of Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe) has taken a measure which will take effect from Monday, August 3, 2020: the wearing of a mask will now be compulsory on the weekly markets.
These take place in the morning, Mondays (7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.), Fridays (7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Place de la République and Place du Champ de fair.
The measure could be extended “if necessary”, specifies the decree of Friday, July 31, to the rue de l’Ile and place Dom Guéranger during the Monday and Saturday markets.
Covid-19: increase in cases in Sarthe
These three open-air markets had been re- authorized gradually during and after the lockdown.
In France, the number of daily cases of Covid-19 is increasing.
In Sarthe, the number of hospitalizations increased from 28 patients (Tuesday July 28th) to 39 (Friday July 31st).
In all, 43 additional positive cases in a few days. On the other hand, a person is in intensive care.
Who is concerned ?
The mayor of Sablé, Nicolas Leudière, considers that:
“The rules of physical distancing cannot be guaranteed on all the perimeters of outdoor markets.”

The obligation to wear a mask concerns all people over 11 years old in the markets: traders and employees, producers, customers or simple passers-by.
The goal of the municipality: “to prevent any health risk and protect the population”.
