A Car Drives into 11 People in Caen: The Toll Rises, a Second Death Announced

A car drove into a group of 11 people in Caen (Calvados) on the night of August 26th to 27th, 2026. A second death was announced this Thursday morning.

The night before, Wednesday 26th August, a BMW car “deliberately” charged at a group of 11 people, in front of a bar in the neighborhood of the caen station (Calvados). The events occurred around 10.15 pm.

Six other victims seriously injured

The victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest after the impact. This is the second death in this tragedy. The prefect of Calvados David Clavière announced, on site, the death of a first victim during the night, after the events.

Six others seriously injured were sent in absolute emergency to Caen University Hospital.

The alleged perpetrator “is not known to the intelligence services”

Having fled after the events, the alleged perpetrator, aged 26 and born in Russia, was arrested in Ouistreham, on the Côte de Nacre, about twenty kilometres from Caen.

The 26-year-old was taken into custody and charged with “ assassination and intentional violence with a weapon. The investigation was entrusted to the Calvados organized and specialized crime division.

“This is a person of Russian origin, born in Russia, who was not not known to the intelligence services. He was known to the police for traffic offenses”, explained the prefect of Calvados during the night.
