Terrible Accident in Front of Caen Station, a Car Drives into 11 People: One Dead and the Neighbourhood Cordoned Off

A tragedy took place this Wednesday 26th August 2026 around 10:15 p.m. in front of Caen station: a car hit pedestrians. Emergency services are on site.

A terrible accident occurred this Wednesday 26th August 2026 in the evening, in the area of station of Caen (Calvados).

A car reportedly drove into 11 people: one dead and four seriously injured

Around 10.30 p.m., the fire sirens alerted the entire neighbourhood. A tragedy had just occurred in front of Caen station.

According to initial information, a BMW car would have driven into 11 people at a bus shelter located opposite the tobacco bar on Place de la Gare.

Several injured are counted and are currently being taken care of by firefighters.

The car and its driver are still on the run

According to the first report from the Calvados firefighters: a person has been declared dead, four more are seriously injured and in absolute emergency. The other six are injured, in relative emergency.

According to several sorces, it appears the driver who fled from the scene was arrested shortly after in Ouistreham.

The Caen station area closed

Around ten fire trucks, the national police, the municipal police and the SMUR are on site to help the injured and secure the perimeter, despite the rain falling on site.
