Strong Winds, Storms: More than 50 Departments on Alert this Wednesday, here’s Where it will Blow

Dozens of departments are on yellow alert for wind and risk of thunderstorms this Wednesday 22nd October 2025. A stormy episode should be watched in the middle of the week with the arrival of Storm Benjamin.

The weather is rough at the start of the week. While a storm hazard is forecast for midweek, with gusts from 90 to 120 km/h expected in the northwest of France from Thursday 23rd October 2025, Meteo France placed departments on alert for this Wednesday, October 22.
In its 4 pm. bulletin, the organization decided to place 51 departments on yellow alert, The majority for strong wind and ” thunderstorms violent.
There Corrèze was placed on orange alert for rain-flood.
Which departments are on alert?
On the site, Météo France justifies this new point of vigilance by the succession of passages rainy marked in the southwest of the country” as well as “cumulations becoming occasionally significant in the west of the Massif Central”.
A look at the maps the weather institution reported of a France cut in three, with a line of vigilance going from Brittany to the center-east of the country, going down to the bottom of New Aquitaine. Corsica also placed in yellow.

Furthermore, orange alert has been activated for the day of Thursday 23rd October 2025, for 18 departments: Aude, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Gironde, Landes, Manche, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, Puy-de-Dôme, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pyrénées-Orientales, Seine-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, Somme, Vendée and Andorra
The cause? Strong winds and/or flooding risk as a result. Apart from Corrèze, for rain-flood therefore.
Rain, wind and snow
Already this Tuesday, a disturbance hit part of France, with rainy weather in the southern half of France. This bad weather was accompanied by “a west wind sensitive reaching 40 to 60 km/h in gusts inland, 60 to 80 km/h on the Aquitaine coast explained Météo France the day before.
This Wednesday, “rain and wind remain on the menu” over the majority of the country. We will also note a few snowflakes “above 2700 m, in abundance in Savoie”.
Very cloudy and rainy weather affects the majority of the country. The South-West, the Massif Central, the Alps and the North-East keep gray skies all day and are copiously watered, particularly towards the Landes and Limousin. These rains are sometimes accompanied by storms, south of the Loire in the morning and in the Center-East in the afternoon.
A new storm soon to be named?
he rainy deterioration arrives during the night of Wednesday, from the British Isles. Depression will cause potentially stormy winds in the north of the country and the Atlantic coast as well as in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.
