“An explosive cocktail to generate active storms”
“Sunday morning, the well-established rainstorm line is organized from the Mediterranean towards the Rhône valley and Provence”, explains to news.fr Yann Amice, meteorologist and founder of the site Weathernco.
Warm, humid air, continuously fed by the sea, will encounter colder air at altitude: an explosive cocktail to generate active thunderstorms.
Gusts, hail, sustained electrical activity…
Virulent and not very mobile storms in these areas of the south-east could lead, in places, to heavy accumulations of rain, which could give the equivalent of a month of precipitation in a few hours. The meteorologist anticipates also violent gusts of wind can reach or even exceed 100 km/h, localized hail and sustained electrical activity.
“In summary, we will have a typical Mediterranean episode”, points out Yann Amice.

Thunderstorms also on Monday
During the night from Sunday to Monday, storms risk becoming locally violent between Provence, Var and the Alpes-Maritimes.
Monday morning, stormy activity will continue on the coast of Var and Côte-d’Azur, but also in western Corsica.
In other regions, the weather will remain very disrupted on Monday.
