Thunderstorms: Cloudburst and the Flooded Roads in Ille-et-Vilaine

Thunderstorms in Brittany caused flooding

Violent thunderstorms erupted on Sunday night in the west of the department of Ille-et-Vilaine.  Firefighters intervened dozens of times. Residents and motorists were surprised by the intensity of rainfall.

After a hot day, violent storms lashed west of Ille-et-Vilaine, Sunday, May 28, 2017, around 9.30pm, in the Saint-Meen-le-Grand, Montauban, Muel … a sudden cloudburst fell, flooding streets and basements.

After the flood, the standard of firefighters was stormed. At 23 pm, they recorded more than 150 interventions. First to the west of the department, then north and the coast to where storms were moving.

local rescue centers were mobilized throughout the evening, with Rennes as reinforcements.

Disruption on the roads

The storms have also created disruption on the roads. RN12, between Rennes and Saint-Brieuc, was partially cut because water covered part of the floor. Executive West road services were on site.

Traffic was also difficult on certain portions of the RN164, between the center and the RN12 Britain, also flooded.

The police counted many accidents, mainly materials.

On roads loaded that Sunday back weekend of Ascension, many motorists were caught out by the storm and downpour.
