Gusts at more than 80 km/h, Strong Waves: a Gust of Wind hits France this Weekend

Meteo France has placed Finistère and Morbihan on alert, for a risk of high winds, thunderstoms and waves-submersion.

Little gust of wind in the west of the country this Saturday 6th September and Sunday 7th September 2025. While the thunderstorms will sign their return to France, the wind will also pick up. related to a depression located in the northwest of Ireland. 

Up to 80 km/h

It will be quite localized, but sufficiently marked for Meteo France to trigger yellow alert for Saturday, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, a department which is affected from the start of the evening by a few gusts which reach, or even exceed, 70-80 km/h.

The southerly wind strengthens during the night and still blows in the morning, particularly in the Basque Country, still with values close to, or even higher than, 80 km/h. The Pyrénées-Atlantiques are no longer on wind alert this Sunday morning (they remain on storm alert).

Gusts are noticeable across the entire Atlantic coast, of the order of 60 to 70 km/h, and also on the Breton peaks.

In the Autan area, gusts also reach 60 to 80 km/h, before weakening in the afternoon. On the other hand, the south wind picks up from Lyonnais to Val de Saône around 60 km/h.

A risk of waves-submersion in Brittany

At the same time, the depression over the British Isles caused a fairly strong swell which affected the coast of Finistère and Morbihan throughout the day.

But during high tide in the afternoon, a risk of submersion waves cannot be ruled out, warns the weather organization, which triggered yellow vigilance for these two departments on Sunday.
