Friday, March 23, 2018, the Occitanie Region voted the new TER agreement negotiated with the SNCF which will apply in July. With a generalisation of the tickets to one euro.
Friday, March 23, 2018, the Regional Council, during its plenary session held at the Parc des Expositions of Montpellier (Herault) , was focused on a major topic for some travelers 66 000 travelers who take the daily train in Occitania: the new TER agreement with SNCF.
A convention at 300 million euros per year
This new agreement, which will apply from July, covers the period 2018-2025. The stakes are not low: according to Carole Delga, “the use of TERs has increased by 5.1% in Occitania in 2017, and the number of passengers has increased by more than 60% in 15 years”. The Région-SNCF partnership plans to run € 2.5 billion over the eight years of the agreement, or about € 300 million a year. And 11% more trains.
Five lines currently concerned
One of the strong measures of this convention is the generalization, starting in July, of one-euro train tickets throughout the region. This measure already applies in the former Languedoc-Roussillon in five lines :
- Nîmes-Le Grau of the King
- Perpignan-Villefranche-Vernet-les-Bains
- Béziers-Saint Chély d’Apcher
- Carcassonne-Quillan
- Marvejols-Mende-La Bastide
“The goal is to extend trains to one euro on all lines of Occitanie from July 2018,” says the region. Details of the number of trains and tickets available per line will be provided in June by the community.
Currently, the volume of one-euro notes (neither exchangeable nor refundable) is 540,000 on these five lines. Starting in July, the Region plans to double the number of tickets to one million per year.
