Snow and Ice: The Orange Alert Extends to 43 Departments!

Meteo France have placed 43 departments on Orange alert for Snow and Ice

Half of French departments was placed in orange alert for snow and ice on Monday. It may fall more than 20 cm in the region of Pays de la Loire, tomorrow.

43 departments of the west, east central , northern and southern France  are now on orange alert for snow and ice , announced at Monday lunchtime by Meteo France, which also maintains the Eure in orange alert for floods in the basin of the Seine. Ain, Drôme, Isère, Ardèche, Lozère, the Rhone and Seine-Maritime are, themselves, more alert .

The disruption that goes back to the Mediterranean will continue its expansion to the north and across the Massif Central,”said Meteo France in its latest bulletin . Contact with this cold air from the plain until Burgundy Rhone Valley, precipitation will continue to occur as snow.

“This snow will keep the ground. The snowfall will spread from south to north. It will continue into the evening and early night on the northernmost departments. Expected quantities are of the order of 2 to 5 cm in plain with locally 10 cm.”

The departments on orange alert:

  • Start tracking: Ardennes, Aube, Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loiret-Cher, Loire-Atlantique, Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Marne, Haute-Marne, Mayenne Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Orne, Sarthe, Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Deux-Sèvres, Vendée, Vienne, Vosges, Yonne, Essonne and Val-d’Oise.
  • monitoring Maintenance: Allier, Aveyron, Cantal, Corrèze, Creuse, Loire, Haute-Loire, Nievre, Puy-de-Dôme, Saône-et-Loire and Haute-Vienne.

According to Meteo France, “a significant snowfall” is scheduled for tomorrow . The region of the Pays de la Loire should be particularly affected where up to 20 cm of snowfall is expected .


However, the s departments Northeast will be mostly affected by freezing rain.
