BMWs Recalled Massively in France for Risk of Fire and Injury: The Cars Concerned

Rappel Conso is warning this Thursday 11th December on several models of BMW brand cars which contain faults endangering passengers.

Be careful on the road. This Thursday 11th December 2025, Rappel Conso is relaying an alert on numerous models BMW cars who are at risk of fire or even injure passengers.

If you own one of the car models listed below, you must contact your dealer.

Recall of BMW X5, X6, X7, 7, 8 (Coupe, Cabrio, Cran Coupe), M340

BMW cars models X5, X6, X7, 7, 8 (Coupe, Cabrio, Cran Coupe) and M340 are part of the reminder. They were sold between the 20th March 2018 and the 11th February 2025. These dates also make it possible to identify the car in the European Rapex recall platform.

To find out if the generation of your BMW is affected, you can look at these codes:

  • G05 (BMW X5: new generation)
  • G06 (BMW X6: new generation)
  • G07 (X7)
  • G12 (series 7)
  • G14 (series 8)
  • G15 (series 8)
  • G16 (series 8)
  • G20 (BMW Series 3: American version) equipped with the B58 engine.

Cars are recalled because “the electrical contacts of the engine starter can overheat and cause the vehicle to start incorrectly”, specifies Rappel Conso.

Continued starting attempts may intensify overheating and ignite surrounding components, which may result in the vehicle burning while driving or shortly after parking.

BMW X3s recalled

Des BMW X3 are also recalled. They were sold between the 11th July 2024 and the 15th July 2025 (rapex identification code).

To find out if your vehicle is affected, you must look at the VIN code which is located at mark E of your registration document. Here it is VIN code for this model: e1*2018/858*00409*00.

The recall also specifies technical information G3XN, which corresponds to BMW X3s produced from 2024.

These cars are recalled because “the protection of the two exterior head restraints in the second row is reduced”, warns Rappel Conso. So, in case d’accident, this part of the vehicle could injure passengers.

BMW 2series, iX2, X2, iX1, X1

Models of BMW 2series, iX2, X2, iX1, X1 are also concerned. They were marketed between the 18th June 2025 and the 25th August 2025.

Here is their VIN code (always notified to mark E of your registration document): e1*2018/858*00117*, e1*2018/858*00153*, e1*2018/858*00371*.

These cars are recalled because “the seat belts the car was not manufactured correctly, warns Rappel Conso.

In the event of a collision or accident, the seat belt restraint function may be reduced and may not provide the necessary protection. As a result, there may be an increased risk of injury.

BMW models 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, Z4, 3Li they too are recalled. They were sold between september 28, 2015 and September 7, 2021.

“Water can come into contact with the starting relay and gradually cause corrosion”, notes Rappel Conso.

This could affect the electrical connection inside the relay and make the motor difficult to start. This can also cause a short circuit and cause the starter to overheat leading to a fire when the vehicle is moving or parked with the ignition off.

BMW F70, F74, U06 are also part of this alert. They were marketed between the 19th June 2025 and the 25th June from the same year.

Here is their VIN code:

  • e1*2018/858*00397* (F7)
  • e1*2018/858*00117* (U2AT)

They are recalled because “faulty screwing of the ground cable may increase the contact resistance, which could result in heating of the screw connection”.

Additionally, it can potentially damage the power control unit (PCU), increasing the risk of fire.
