Twitter announces the deactivation of inactive accounts

SOCIAL NETWORKS: The operation should reduce the number of Twitter subscribers of many users, warned the multi-billionaire

Elon Musk warned on Monday that Twitter users risk seeing their number of subscribers drop soon. The owner of the social network has indeed taken the decision to deactivate unused accounts. “We’re eliminating accounts that haven’t been active at all for years,” the multi-billionaire tweeted.

“We work hard to make your thread as interesting as possible,” Elon Musk explained on the social network the day before. The entrepreneur intends to energize the platform and has therefore implemented many changes in the operation of Twitter since its acquisition last October for 44 billion dollars, or approximately 40 billion euros.

A trust deficit

Despite the new paid subscription formula Twitter Blue, the company has suffered significant losses in revenue, estimated by many specialists. Twitter’s revenue in 2023 is expected to fall 28%, analysts at research firm Insider Intelligence have estimated. The question, according to these experts, is the lack of confidence of advertisers in Elon Musk.

The latter said in an interview that Twitter was “roughly at the break-even point”. Elon Musk has also recently expressed his desire to “maximize the time of use without regret” of the platform. The businessman, however, did not specify how he intended to measure this element.
