“We are preparing a visit by President Putin in France on the 19th October,” said Sergei Lavrov at the start of his meeting on Thursday with the French foreign minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault.  The visit of Jean-Marc Ayrault comes as France must file a resolution on Syria at the UN.

“Our presidents will have an opportunity to talk about the current situation in bilateral relations and on international issues, including Syria and Ukraine,” he said.  “This visit will be very important,” said Sergei Lavrov.  The last visit of Vladimir Putin in France dates back to November 2015.   He was then made them to participate in the opening of the World Climate Conference, the COP21.

The worst crisis since the end of the Cold War

Relations between Russia and the West are going through the worst crisis since the end of the Cold War, because of the Ukrainian conflict.  Unwavering ally of the Damascus regime, Russia is also increasingly criticized by the West for its support in bombing by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in rebel districts of Aleppo, Syrian second city, described by UN as “hell on earth”. Moscow claims apply only to jihadist groups.
