Aquitaine: Record Attendance in 2015 for Hotels and Campsites

This is a record attendance for a summer season . INSEE Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes announcement in a note that it has released the attendance in hotels and camping for the Aquitaine reached between May and September 2015 almost 21 million overnight stays, an increase of 5 1% compared to the 2014 season, which itself had a slight increase of 0.2%. A much more pronounced than national growth (+ 2.9%).

The Aquitaine 771 campsites, alone account for three quarters of all overnight stays (15.6 million overnight stays from May to September). Aquitaine is thus the second region in number of nights spent on campsites, behind Languedoc-Roussillon and in front Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

July 2015 was one of the four months of the warmest July since a century

These good results are mainly due to French customers, where attendance increased by 7.9%, while the foreign attendance was down for the first time in three years, 0.6%.

For INSEE, it is the “excellent weather conditions in the first three months of the season (May, June, July) that have boosted attendance. ” July 2015 is in fact one of the four hottest July in Aquitaine for over a century, according to Météo France. Just this month, attendance jumped 8.7% in the region and 11% of the coastline.

Impressive progress in the campsites of Arcachon and Medoc

Unsurprisingly, it is also the Aquitaine coast campsites that have experienced the largest increase over the full season (+ 6.9%). A change four times greater than that of the Mediterranean coast (+ 1.6%). And progression is particularly clear on the Gironde coast, with 16.7% of overnight stays in campsites in the Arcachon basin, and 11.6% for those of the Médoc coast.

Regarding Aquitaine 1,137 hotels, attendance rose by 4.9%, after a difficult season in 2014 (- 1.3%). Again, it is the French clientele comeback (+ 4% against – 3.9% in 2014) although the growth of the foreign attendance remains strong (+ 8%).

Bordeaux hotels attract foreign customers

Bordeaux and its suburbs capture most of the increase in foreign attendance.International customers and generates 37% of overnight stays in 69 hotels of the city.

The next note INSEE will cover the territory of the new Greater Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes, which now represents the first French region in terms of capacity for the outdoor hotel front Languedoc-Roussillon -Midi-Pyrénées
