Migrants have made several complaints against the police for violence in Calais

Six complaints from migrants for targeted violence were received by the prosecutor of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Police officers are involved in some of them …

Police questioned. On Monday, six complaints were filed by migrants in Calais, we have learned, with the public prosecutor of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Four of them allegedly targeted by security forces.

Police internal affairs notified

“We received six complaints from six different people, four of them we passed to the l’GPN (Police internal affairs) because there are alegations against police officers,” the prosecutor said.  For the other two complaints, “the judicial police will investigate as normal,” said the source who states that no alleged suspect is identified in the complaints.

The Head of Mission of the “legal centre” located in the “Jungle” in Calais, Marianne Humbersot, said for her part that “nine complaints were filed on Saturday, which relate to police,” and appreciated the positive referral to the l’GPN.

Marianne Humbersot and Bordeaux lawyer Raymond Blet who works for the law centre, said last Friday the successful completion of “400 consultations” with the migrants and fully intended to “inform them of their legal rights.” The complaints are the result of these consultations.

“Affirmations unworthy and unfounded”

On sunday, the police union Unsa had reacted strongly.  “These serious allegations, unfounded and unworthy express a political, biased and one-sided view of the issues raised in Calais” (Pas-de-Calais), he said.
On Friday, the prefect of Pas-de-Calais, Fabienne Buccio, proved circumspect: “We must be very careful, because our officers are already under pressure and hard working, we must also respect the police”.  “They (the migrants) report these facts, an investigation will be done,” she added.  She said “these malicious acts” may have been committed by people who “took the appearance of police officers.”
