The announcement was made by the American company OpenAI through from a press release published Tuesday 18th August 2026. The ad will concern the free version and subscription at a low price from the conversational agent artificial intelligence (AI).
Ads “clearly identified and separated from responses”
Ad placement on ChatGPT will be accessible to advertisers through advertising agencies Publicis, WPP, Omnicom, MediaPlus, Havas and dentsu, OpenAI said in its press release.
“The advertisements are clearly identified and separated from ChatGPT responses. They do not influence these responses”, reiterated the American start-up to address public concerns.
Advertisers do not have access to user conversations and users remain in control.
Align with Google and Meta
With this evolution, OpenAI aligns its model with that of the behemoths Google and Meta, whose power rests primarily on advertising backed by their free services.
The start-up, which exceeded the milestone of one billion active users worldwide in July 2026, is under pressure to generate new revenue in order to finance its infrastructure and the colossal investments necessary for the development of AI.
