Orange Alert for Heavy Rains in Southeastern France: Flood Risks and Safety Advice

Météo France has issued an orange alert for heavy rains and flooding in southeastern France. Discover the latest weather forecasts, expected rainfall totals, and safety tips for affected regions.
Météo France has placed four departments in southeastern France under an orange alert for heavy rains and flooding this Sunday, November 16, 2025. The Alpes-Maritimes, Drôme, Ardèche, and Isère are facing intense rainfall, with some areas expecting up to 150 mm of precipitation, particularly along the coast and in the foothills.
The weather agency warns that new thunderstorms are moving across the region, bringing heavy downpours to the plains of Ardèche and Drôme, as well as the Alpes-Maritimes and northern Isère. The main concern is the intensity of the rainfall, which could lead to significant runoff and flooding.
In Nice, local authorities have activated a vigilance cell and closed public parks, gardens, cemeteries, beaches, and the coastal path. Residents are advised to limit travel and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
In Ardèche, Drôme, and Isère, rainfall totals of 50 to 70 mm are expected within 6 to 9 hours, with the risk of flooding extending from the Cévennes foothills to northern Isère. The alert follows a turbulent Saturday, when heavy rains affected Ardèche, Loire, and Rhône, with up to 180 mm recorded in La Souche, Ardèche, causing road accidents due to slippery conditions.
The Var department remains under a yellow alert, with the possibility of an upgrade as the situation evolves. These storms are linked to depression Claudia, which is pushing warm, moist air from the Mediterranean into the region.
Authorities recommend that residents avoid unnecessary travel, monitor local weather alerts, and follow official safety advice to minimize risks during this period of severe weather.
