This Friday morning in Puisseguin, near Libourne, in Gironde, a collision between a bus and a truck has claimed 42 lives. Under the impact, both vehicles caught fire.

Forty-two people died this Friday morning at around 7.30am in a collision between a bus and a truck in Puisseguin, near Libourne, in Gironde.  41 victims were bus passengers, the 42nd is the truck driver.  Both vehicles were ablaze during frontal impact.  Eight people have managed to get out of the bus on fire, three of which are injured.

An accident between a truck and a bus occurred at 7.30am on the town of Puisseguin,  in the Libourne (Gironde). The toll was heavy: At least 42 people died.

The passengers from the village of Petit-Palais-et-Cornemps, were elderly on a trip out to  Arzacq-Arraziguet, in Béarn, near Pau, where seniors were to attend a day around Bearn tales with storyteller René Cazenave and a tasting of cabbage soup,  a Traditional Pyrenees main meal.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls, the Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve and the Secretary of State for Transport Alain Vidal will be going this morning to Gironde at the scene of the collision between a bus and a truck.

The Government is fully mobilized on this terrible tragedy

The French government said it “totally   mobilized”  after the fatal accident on Friday morning, said the French President Francois Hollande who is on an official visit.  “The French government is fully mobilized on this terrible tragedy,” said Mr. Holland a few minutes before the start of talks in Athens with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. 

The victims’ families are invited to visit the hall of Puisseguin where a group of psychologists are available to assist the families.  The prosecutor’s office has also opened an investigation into the incident,  to try to determine the reasons for this terrible accident, said the prefect of Gironde.
