WEEKEND WEATHER: The weekend weather in Lorient will be more changeable than this week, with low pressures that will generate an unstable current, rejecting warm air in the Mediterranean.

Saturday 18th May, 2019

Dominant very cloudy to cloudy in the morning with rare ripples preceding a mid-day variable with clearings, more frank on the littoral border, and cumulus cumulus.

In the afternoon, the rapidly growing instability generates a more chaotic sky with clearings, more beautiful on the coast and imposing cumulus, generating sometimes stormy showers.

Wind northwest-light to very weak in the morning turning to west in the afternoon, initially weak then moderate (gusts 20-30 km/h, 30-40 on Groix and exposed coastline).

From Kerroc’h to Guidel-Plages: west swell 1 m. Min: 7 / 8 degrees; max: 15  / 16 degrtees. Showers weakening before nightfall returns; 13 degrees at 8pm and 10 degrees at midnight.

Mists at dawn moving towards a sunny morning with sails of very high altitude and cumulus preceding a mid-day spring and variable with clearings and cumulus clouds.

In the afternoon, the clearings, more beautiful and soft on Lorient and the littoral border, compose with budding cumulus, generating some sometimes stormy showers between 4pm and 7pm.

Gentle to moderate northwest wind veering to moderate west then sustained after 16 h (gusts 30-40 km/h, 40-50 over Groix and exposed shoreline).

From Kerroc’h to Guidel-Plages: west swell 1 m. Min: 9 / 10 degrees; max: 17 / 18 degrees. Return of a clear sky in the evening; 15 degrees at 8pm and 10 degrees at midnight.

The heat in May 

Despite a generous sun, temperatures have not exceeded the threshold of 21.2 degrees this week.

For 35 years, about ten years have gone from spring to summer, with summer temperatures during the first half of May.

Among the most notable, mercury oscillates between 27 and 30 degrees from 16th to 20th May 1992, but also in early May 1989; 1990 and 1995.

Closer to us, the peaks reach 26.7  to 27.8  degrees in early May 2004, 25.6 to 26.8 degrees on May 11th and 12th, 2008 and 26.4 degrees on 16th May 2017.
