Mini tornado hits two houses in Congrier, Mayenne

The roof of a home in Congrier was torn off and a power line of 20,000 volts was cut after a mini tornado on Friday 29th December in the afternoon. There are no injuries.

“We had a feeling of doom and fear that the house would fly away.” The Prod’Homme family is still in shock. On Friday, around 4pm, the sky has suddenly darkened, hail and wind rose and “in a minute”, a mini tornado devastated everything in its path, the localities and Conillère the little Conillère in Congrier. At the farm of the family Prod’Homme, sheets of roofing was torn away. “When it hit, the double glazed windows of the house and the shutters are broken.”

At Patrice Hinry, the neighbour, the roof of the house is gone, taking with it the rafters and chimney. The shed at the back of the house collapsed on vehicles. The monumental statues of the sculptor, who nevertheless weigh several tons, were raised like straw straws to crash on the road. “Fortunately, there were no injuries.”

This Saturday morning the Enedis agents were still hard at work trying to restore electricity. Power should be back tonight at 6pm. The inhabitants of the neighbouring farms came spontaneously to lend a hand to the victims who were affected.

To avoid accidents, the provincial road D231 was cut between Saint-Erblon and Congrier. A detour has been set up. The people were relocated with other family members.
