Heatwave: Seven Departments in the South of France will be on Orange Alert on Saturday

Seven departments in the south of France are now placed on orange alert for heatwave from Saturday noon

There are now seven departments which will be on orange heatwave alert from Saturday noon Météo-france announcement this friday. The Vaucluse shift in turn, like the Pyrénées-Orientales, also on orange alert since this Friday, 3 p.m. Five other departments in the south of France have been placed on heatwave alert since Friday noon: l’Ardèche, l’Aude, the Gard, l’Hérault and l’Isère.

The cause is “increasingly hot air” which “is reaching the south of the country from the Iberian Peninsula”, explain the meteorologists. Temperatures recorded over the Mediterranean arc and the Rhône valley are between 33 and 36 °C, this Friday afternoon. And climb up to 38 °C in Aude and Hérault for the moment.

More lenient nights in the South-West

Night-time minimums from Friday to Saturday are between 19 and 23 °C in Mediterranean regions. Elsewhere they are most often less than 20 °C (hence the only yellow level for the South-West departments). “Saturday afternoon, the maximums will drop by a few degrees in the South-West, but should rise significantly on the Languedoc coast”, announces Météo-France

This very strong heat is expected to persist at least until Sunday in the southern half of the country, particularly in the South-East. The northern half should be further preserved by this new heatwave.
