Snow Expected in Part of France on Thursday and Friday: Where Will the Snowflakes Fall?

Météo France places several departments on “snow-ice” alert, but also avalanches this Thursday 4th December 2025. Where will it snow?

Some high tides and sometimes strong winds in the west, with significant risks of marine submersion… but also of the snow consequential on the massifs! This weekend promises to be hectic on the front of the weather in France due to a parade of disturbances which will cross France from west to east.

If, in the plains, it will be rain, sometimes, from 1000 meters, or even less when you wake up, they will be flakes these thursday 4th December and Friday 5th December 2025 on the massifs. The rain-snow limit will be low in the morning, particularly in the south-east of the Massif Central, and will gradually rise during the day to around 1,000 meters, details Météo France.

This Wednesday, snow has already fallen from 600 meters, particularly in the Puy-en-Velay region in Haute-Loire. Be careful if you hit the road.

With the accumulation of snow for several days, the weather organization has pointed out a risk of’avalanches marked in the Alps, on the Mont-Blanc, Belledonne, Grandes Rousses and Oisans massifs.

The departments are on avalanche and snow-ice alert this Thursday 4th December:

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: avalanches
Hautes-alpes: avalanches
Alpes-maritimes: avalanches
Ardèche: snow-ice
Isère: avalanches
Haute-loire : snow-ice
Lozère : snow-ice
Pyrénées-Atlantiques: avalanches
Hautes-pyrénées: avalanches
Haute-savoie: avalanches

This Thursday, light frosts are expected near the Alps and in the Massif Central and the minimums will be between 2 and 6°C elsewhere, only.

These snowfalls, which will continue this Thursday 4th December and Friday 5th December will however not last at this altitude during the weekend as we explain in this article.

From this weekend of Saturday 6th December and Sunday 7th December, the isothermal 0°C (the minimum altitude at which the temperature reaches the value of 0 degrees) will rise very high, sometimes up to 3,500 meters at the beginning of next week! Suffice to say that the snow cover in the resorts and at low altitude will suffer greatly this weekend.

And, in this noticeable softening of the air mass, it’s (another) gale that’s already coming to the west for this Monday 8th December 2025…
