Hérault: The Department is on Red Alert Due to the Risk of Flooding

ALERT: Météo-France has placed Hérault on red alert, “in a context of heavy flooding of several rivers”

Météo-France has passed the department of Hérault on red alert due to the risk of significant flooding. “Sometimes sustained stormy rains continue to rise over the Hérault, in a context of heavy flooding of several rivers”, indicate the meteorologists.

“The resumption of rains on Monday, combined with the continued spread upstream, continues to raise levels in Agde. Damaging excesses are underway and will continue”, underlines Vigicrue. From Pézenas to Agde, downstream of the coastal river, Hérault has reached several alert levels.

“The river is in flood due to heavy rainfall. The rains will continue over the next few hours with low to moderate intensity”, adds the prefecture. The peak flood should be reached in Laroque at 5.15 pm with 7.29 m. In the town of Agde, the Hérault river could reach a height of 3.43 m at 7.15 pm.

Since the start of the day, accumulations of around 50 to 80 mm have been underway in the east of the department with locally 80 to 100 mm in the Montpellier sector. These rains are added to those of previous days, on already saturated soils. They should lose intensity during the night from Monday to Tuesday.
