Weather in Charente: A Day of Heavy Downpours

Météo-France placed Gironde, Dordogne and Corrèze on orange alert on Monday for risk of rain-flooding, due to an intense rainy episode which continues in the South-West.
An Orange alert for the Charente will be in place from 10am Monday and must remain in effect until 6pm, when the rains head south.
The expected accumulations could cause significant flooding on several rivers, notably the Isle and the Vézère, already under surveillance, according to Vigicrues.
According to the 6am bulletin, in the three departments, “cumulations of 50 to 60 mm, locally 70 mm or a little more, are therefore planned quite extensively in 24 hours”.
“In the last 12 hours, there have been fairly widespread 20 to 40 mm along a Gironde /Corrèze axis”, the meteorological agency further specifies.
Authorities are calling for caution, particularly near flood zones and exposed roads.
Accumulated precipitation will also be abundant in the departments of Ain, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie, which are kept on yellow alert.
Météo-France recommends limiting travel in the areas concerned.
