Were you hot last week? From the start of the week, a flow coming from the north will bring a mass of polar air throughout the country. After a few days of dry cold favoring frost, the week will shift to humid weather on Wednesday, conducive to occasional snow on the reliefs. The first negative and frozen temperatures will appear in Charente from Wednesday to Friday, with minimum temperatures between -1 and -2 degrees.
Weather update: frosts in the plains and cold in the mountains
Frosts will become widespread in the plains, particularly in the North, Center and Eastern valleys according to Météo-France forecasts. Temperatures could drop by around ten degrees, compared to those at the start of the month. The bottoms of interior valleys and plateaus will be the most exposed, with temperatures of –2 to –4 °C in the early morning. In the mountains, the cold will be more severe, with –10 to –15 °C expected in the resorts of the Alps.
A moderate winter episode
Although this is a significant return of the cold, don’t panic, this cold snap is nothing exceptional. The episode will be short-lived: the afternoons will remain mild and the temperatures positive. For climatologists, this late frost is part of the current trend of rarer and later frosts.
