Connected Heating: Solutions to Reduce the Bill, Whatever your Installation

Connected Heating: Solutions to Reduce the Bill, Whatever your Installation

ENERGY: When a small update of your heating installation allows you to make significant savings on your energy bill

The essential

  • The gradual drop in temperatures at the start of autumn 2025 suggests the imminence of restarting boilers and radiators.
  • While the rise in energy prices in recent years has had a strong impact on the purchasing power of the French, switching to “connected heating” allows, after a substantial investment, to sustainably reduce expenses.
  • Whatever your installation, there is now a solution, from the connected thermostat to the connected radiator, including small economical boxes which can also appeal to tenants.

Humidity is setting in, temperatures are slowly but surely dropping, and it will soon be time to turn the boiler and radiators back on! As part of a first installation or renewal of equipment, the heating connected makes more sense than ever today.

If it gets milder and milder, than our consumption d’electricity and of gas tends towards more sobriety, panic energy prices in recent years, we have also been pushing us to moderate our consumption. To help us, thermostats, thermostatic faucet heads, adapters for existing radiators… allow you to save 5 to 30% on your bill without compromising on your comfort. We are here to help you reduce your heating costs and energy costs.

A 2.0 installation for less than euros

So-called “connected” heating is obviously not new. We have to go back to the 2010s for companies like Nest (bought by Google) or even Netatmo are launching their first thermostat 2.0. Or a small box connected to a WiFi boiler, which allows you to finely adjust your heating using an application, day by day, hour by hour. And to control it remotely. Or even, thanks to the geolocation of your smartphone, automatically interrupt it in case of absence and trigger it when you get closer to your house.

The interest of the application also consists of perfect monitoring of its energy consumption, which some apps even convert into euros. At any time, it is therefore possible to know the amount of your expenses. Nothing to do with grandpa’s old thermostats graduated from 1 to 6, which had hardly changed for so many years. Please note: from January 1, 2027, a heating regulation system per room or per zone, programmable hour by hour, becomes mandatory, regardless of the type of premises (decree n°2023-444 of June 7, 2023). A connected thermostat is therefore particularly suitable.

An investment of 200 to 250 euros

Connected thermostats therefore remain more relevant today than ever. No need to summon an installer: they can be implemented quite simply. Allow a budget of approximately 200 to 250 euros for a model from Google, Netatmo, Somfy, Bosch, Honeywell, tado°… which will be amortized in a few years.

However, check its compatibility with the type of your boiler (gas, oil, electric or condensing). Note that on certain recent boiler models, manufacturers such as Atlantic, Daikin, Frisquet… offer their own connected thermostat, optimized for their equipment. But it is possible to go further in your quest to save money.

Better suited thermostatic valves

If a connected thermostat regulates the overall temperature of your apartment or house, it will not intervene differently depending on the room. Why, for example, heat the bathroom all day, when it only needs to be heated in the early morning and evening? The same goes for bedrooms, where you can turn off the heating during the day and turn it back on an hour or two before bedtime. To do this, it is possible to equip your hot water radiators with connected thermostatic valves, to replace the usual tap heads.

The principle is the same for connected thermostats: through a dedicated application, each thermostatic valve can be programmed to heat this or that room to the desired temperature, at the desired time, and for the desired time. Problem: this type of equipment requires a certain investment: from around 30 euros to 90 euros depending on whether you equip yourself with Sedea, MOES, tado° or Netatmo. Hence the interest in purchasing these heads in packs (they are sometimes offered in starter kits with a connected thermostat).

Electric radiators: don’t panic!

If you are equipped with electric radiators, there are two solutions available to you for connecting them. No boiler here: each radiator is independent. It is first possible to replace your old radiators with new, more recent models, therefore connected. The price of these radiators varies greatly depending on the size of the model, its power and its brand (up to several hundred euros). We nevertheless advise you, for the sake of harmonization and to better manage your installation from a single application, to remain loyal to a single brand.

But, more economical to avoid re-equipping: it is also possible to place a small box on each existing radiator which will transform your classic heating device into a connected radiator. For just a few dozen euros per radiator, you can “update” an installation that you do not necessarily want to replace and centralize its control from the same application.

The brands Avidsen, Konyks, Sedea… offer them. This is also a rather economical solution that can be considered when you are simply a tenant. With three to five radiators to be equipped on average, the invested budget will not exceed 150 euros, with an almost immediate return on investment. And the possibility of leaving with your equipment when you move.

In 2024-2025, the French spent on average between 1,200 and 1,540 euros for their natural gas heating, and around 1,660 euros for their electric heating.
