Titres-restaurant : Employees will Soon also be Able to Use Them on Sundays, “in all Departments”

There is (still) news regarding meal cards and Titres-restaurant: the 5.5 million employees benefiting from them could also use them on weekends.

Exactly a week ago, the government started a major reform concerning Titres-restaurant : the possibility of use them sustainably after 2027 for supermarket shopping.

This Wednesday 25th June 2025, something new is added. The Minister Delegate in charge of Commerce Véronique Louwagie announced at Parisian that cards and meal vouchers will soon be able to be used all week, including Sunday.

All employees will be able to use their titres-restaurant, meal vouchers on Sundays.

No question for public holidays

Note that for certain employees working weekends, this possibility was already allowed to them by their employers. For them, this novelty changes nothing.

The ceiling amount allocated each day to employees will remain 25 euros, continues the minister.

However, there is no question of returning the meal vouchers also available on public holidays – by definition non-working days. “The meal voucher must remain directly linked to the world of work”, states Véronique Louwagie in The Parisian.

The text governing this reform is being prepared in order to be presented “as quickly as possible” to parliamentarians véronique Louwagie mentioned a few days ago. Objective: application on the 1st January 2027.

Soon no more paper tickets either

In the eyes of Véronique Louwagie, “this reform simplifies [and] secures” meal vouchers, which today benefit some 5.5 million employees in France. It is also a question of “sustaining” this system by making it evolve.

Among the new features revealed by the minister in recent days: one dematerialization cards and meal vouchers. “Nearly three-quarters of purchases via the titres-restaurant are already done with a card”, justifies the minister.

From February 28, 2027, the use of paper titles will no longer be possible. And employees will only have the current year to lock their account.

If the government praises the evolution of meal vouchers, restaurateurs do not agree. As evidenced by Franck Chaumes, president of the Catering branch at the Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (Umih), for whom “it’s a disaster”.

According to the figures which she shared on the 18th June, the use of meal vouchers in supermarkets has caused the sector to lose 700 million euros since 2022. There is no doubt that this new measure could further make the sector cringe…
