Pyrénées-Orientales: The sale of above-ground swimming pools will soon be banned

DROUGHT: The Minister for Ecological Transition announced this Friday morning on RTL a new measure to save water in the Pyrénées-Orientales department.

The drought is forcing the authorities to increase restrictions on the use of water, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales, one of the most affected in France. This is the message conveyed this Friday morning on RTL by Christophe Béchu, Minister for Ecological Transition. In a few days, he will present a new drought guide stipulating the minimum rules to follow, specifying that each prefect can decide to go further, depending on the local situation.

“Avoid the temptation” to fill your pool

Several departments have already announced a ban on activities that require a large amount of water, such as watering gardens, washing cars, and filling swimming pools. These measures have been implemented due to the ongoing drought and the need to conserve water resources. In addition to these restrictions, the Pyrénées-Orientales department will soon prohibit the sale of above-ground swimming pools. This decision is aimed at preventing people from purchasing these pools, which could tempt them to fill them with water, despite the ban on filling swimming pools. According to Christophe Bechu, this measure reflects the severity of the situation. He emphasised that climate change is a pressing issue that requires us to rethink our consumption habits and move away from a society that values abundance. In summary, the restrictions on water usage and the ban on above-ground swimming pool sales are necessary steps towards mitigating the effects of climate change and conserving our natural resources.
