Meteo France has placed 13 departments from the Bas-Rhin to the Loire on orange alert, this Sunday 18th August 2019 in anticipation of a violent storm episode from the afternoon.

In detail, the departments concerned are: Ain (01), Côte-d’Or (21), Doubs (25), Jura (39), Loire (42), Haute-Loire (43), Bas-Rhin (67) ), Haut-Rhin (68), Rhône (69), Haute-Saône (70), Saône-et-Loire (71), Vosges (88) and Territoire-de-Belfort (90).
In its bulletin of 10pm, Meteo France added the department of Haute-Loire to the list and extended the end of the event at 6am Monday morning.
Risk of floods
Meteo France predicted a risk of violent phenomenon from Sunday afternoon, at 15h. “From this afternoon, and until tomorrow morning Monday, thunderstorms will develop on an axis going from Occitanie to Lorraine and Alsace,” wrote the forecaster in his bulletin broadcast at 6am .

“These thunderstorms are expected to be strong on the departments placed in orange vigilance, where we expect heavy rains with hourly intensities of between 20 and 40 or even 50 mm (generating a risk of runoff and local floods), the hail, gusts of wind between 80 and 100 km/h, or even more locally, and sustained electrical activity. “
