Handball World Cup: France Snatch the Bronze Medal

The French team won the bronze medal at the World Handball Championship, Sunday 27th January, in Denmark. The Blues faced the Germans.

The French have consoled themselves for their failure in the semi-finals by taking the bronze medal of the World Handball Championship at the expense of Germany , 26 to 25, Sunday in Herning (Denmark) , thanks to a goal from Nikola Karabatic at the last second .

The Blues, doubles title holders, had suffered a stinging defeat (38-30) against Denmark, Friday in Hamburg.

Four medals in a row

This is the fourth time in a row that France finishes on the podium of an international competition after the money of the 2016 Olympics, the gold of the World Cup-2017 and the bronze of the Euro-2018.

Since the 2008 Games, they have totaled 11 medals out of 14 possible. The big total since the first podium at the Barcelona Games in 1992 is twenty.

But this is also the first time in eleven years that they do not participate in the final in two major tournaments in a row. In the last five major championships, they have won only one, the Mondial-2017, at home.

Abused in the first period

In this second France-Germany World Cup, after the draw (25-25) of January 15 in the first round in Berlin, the advantage had to go to the team that would have better digested his disappointment. That of the Germans, rolled (31-25) by the Norwegians in front of their supporters in Hamburg, was also hard.

Nikola Karabatic was started tenure after playing only eleven minutes against Denmark. Melvyn Richardson, most often reserved for the second half, was this time on the field since the beginning of the match. Goalkeeper Cyril Dumoulin was finally released in the 11th minute due to a knee injury.

Abandoned in the first half (13-9 at the break), the French went ahead by inflicting a 6-1 to the Germans after the break thanks to Kentin Mahé (7 goals in total), then gave the decisive blow of kidney in the “money time”.

The final between 17.30 Denmark to Norway, two nations in search of their first world title.
