A taste of winter on Monday . The Corrèze, Creuse and Tarn have been placed in orange vigilance to the snow and ice by Meteo France , Monday. There are therefore thirteen departments, in total, that are concerned by an orange alert for snow, rain or ice: the Alpes-Maritimes , Aveyron, Cantal, Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, the Loire, Haute-Loire, Lozère, Puy-de-Dôme and Var.

Meteo France warns against an “intense rainy-stormy episode requiring special monitoring because of its intensity and duration” and a “significant snowfall and arriving early in the season”. The snow should appear from 600 to 700 m on the Massif Central, 2.000 m on the Alps and the Jura. On the Massif Central, the snowfall will sometimes be strong and durable. These inclement weather should extend north, Monday evening and Tuesday morning, with snowfall at very low altitude, or even plain.
“The snow will fall heavily, first on the Haute-Loire and Lozère in the morning, then late morning or early afternoon on the Loire, Puy-de-Dome, Cantal and Aveyron” warned Météo France, which expects by Tuesday morning snow amounts of 15 to 30 cm (locally 50 cm) above 800 to 1,000 m and at least 5 to 10 cm above 500 m, or lower.
Thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind
Corsica goes on alert orange “violent wind” and “waves submersion” from this afternoon. The Var, already on alert orange “thunderstorms” is placed also vigilantly orange “Rain flood”. “The showers will give accumulations of the order of 100 to 150mm locally 180mm on the southern slopes of the alpine and Corsican terrain. These storms are accompanied by strong gusts of wind generally of the order of 100 to 120 km/h, warns Meteo France.
“In Corsica, a fairly general stormy episode (linked to the depression called Adrian) will sweep the entire island between this afternoon and tonight,” adds the meteorological service.
