Eleanor sorm causes one seriously injured, trains stopped traffic and disrupted airports in Alsace

In Alsace, the power of Eleanor storm caused major disruptions. TER traffic is stopped since this morning and the two airports in the region are disturbed.

The Eleanor storm sweeps the Upper Rhine and the Lower Rhine since Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the morning, causing major disruptions. The Alsace region, such as Lorraine,  is on orange alert for strong winds, according to Meteo France.

The wind gusts were two minor injuries and one serious injury in the region, according to the DNA . A woman aged 78 was shot in St. Louis (Haut-Rhin) after the fall of a masonry element of a building.

Traffic TER stopped

In Alsace, the train traffic is completely stopped . Because of the many fallen trees and roofs of houses on the railway tracks, the train this morning decided to stop completely the flow of TER trains.

The circulation of the TGV between Paris and Strasbourg is also disrupted, with trains running slower. The train does not run on the Strasbourg-Mulhouse line.

Teams are already in place to clear congested routes. For now, it is not expected to return to normal before the passage of the storm Eleanor.

Traffic should be halted much of the day, says the SNCF. By late morning, the railway company realized tests with trains running empty to allow a resumption safely in traffic.

Following the collapse of a roof on the railway at the town Sarraltroff, the traffic on the line TER Metz-Strasbourg between Sarrebourg Sarraltroff was temporarily interrupted , said the Moselle prefecture in a statement.

The highly disturbed airports

At 10.30 am, the air traffic was suspended in Strasbourg airports (Bas-Rhin) and Basel-Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), announced the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Around 11.30am, the situation has slightly improved since  some planes could take off and land in Strasbourg .

But this is not the case for Basel-Mulhouse where traffic is always stopped . Seventh French airport, Basel-Mulhouse located on the Franco-Swiss border is home to over 7 million passengers. It is the largest airport of the Grand East.

The Strasbourg Christmas tree breaks




In Strasbourg, the top of the huge Christmas tree set up Kleber broke, according to the Latest News from Alsace .

The Mulhouse Zoo, which was to have opened this morning at 10am, has decided to keep its doors closed for the whole day Wednesday.

According Enedis, no outbreaks is currently without electricity in Alsace while 30,000 households are deprived in Lorrain and 20,000 in Champagne-Ardenne.
