A Woman in her fifties died after being struck by lightning on Friday morning on a beach in the island of Oléron (Charente-Maritime). She had gone fishing on foot.
A woman was struck by lightning on Friday morning on the island of Oléron. On holiday she was with a party who were fishing with her husband on the beach of Saint-Trojan, under a rainy sky but without thunder when lightning struck, around 8.30am. The weather was expected, however, with forecasts of thunderstorms locally.
Her husband, who gave the warning, tried to give first aid, soon aided by firefighters and an ambulance arrived at the scene. The woman died on the spot, according to rescuers. She was from the Dordogne, reports the newspaper Sud Ouest.
