“When I woke up around 6 am, I saw a big red cloud from my bedroom window,” said the owner, a 80 year old man, who immediately alerted the fire department.
One of the barns of his property, a former vineyard, was on fire, wood-based situated atroute de bois-blanc in Touvre. Ten vehicles and forty firefighters from the stations of Villebois, Angouleme, Aigre and La Couronne intervened there.
“We had to mobilize more widebody water because the first terminal fire in the village center, was too far away,” said Chief Warrant Officer Patrice Ferrer, in charge of operations. The barn, which contained various materials, was completely destroyed by the flames but the fire was limited to one building.
“We have deployed three spears and managed to avoid any spread to neighboring buildings and housing,” explains Chief Warrant Officer.
