The driver of a van died early on Tuesday morning in a fire at his vehicle, recounts France Bleu Nord . He lost control while traveling on the A16 at the town Guemps (Pas-de-Calais), blocked by a roadblock set up by migrants. They had placed tree trunks on the floor in order to stop two trucks.

The driver of the pickup truck registered in Poland could not avoid these, he collided. The vehicle then ignited. Nine Eritrean nationality of migrants were arrested and placed in custody, from details on francetvinfo.  An investigation has been opened.

The A16 motorway was closed at junction 50. This accident is a first in the Calais area since the beginning of the migration crisis in 2014, announced the prefecture.

Between 400 and 600 migrants identified in the Calais

Installing handmade dams in the Calais area, especially at night, by desperate migrants to slow trucks bound for England and try to hide inside was almost daily when the “Jungle” still existed.

This practice was stopped with its dismantling in October 2016, but picked up since late May and marked the return of migrants in the Calais area. Between 400 migrants, according to the prefecture, and 600, according to the associations, now live in Calais and its surrounding area in precarious conditions, always hoping to reach England.
