Mike Connors, the hero of the Television series Mannix has died

Fans of series are in mourning. Joe Mannix, one of TV detectives of the 70’s died on Thursday in California. The actor Mike Connors was swept away by leukemia at the age of 91. He was the American cousin of the French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.

“The leukemia was diagnosed a week ago for Mike Connors”, announces the US entertainment magazine Variety  citing his son. American actor died Thursday in Tarzana, California. Fans of TV series are in mourning.

 


The iconic role of Mike Connors will remain that of the detective Joe Mannix in a series that lasted eight seasons on the US television network  CBS from 1967 to 1975. Series ever since rebroadcast on small screens worldwide and generic known for generations viewers.


This series features the investigations of an investigator, first to the security company and Intertect information, then on his own, as a private detective in Los Angeles.

This great dark, the square jaw, a former basketball champion, his playing partners nicknamed “Touch”, was the highest paid actor of his time, receiving 40,000 dollars per episode. But he said had legal action against CBS in 2011 because he had never received any royalties.

In Mannix, Mike Connors had been shot seventeen times and hit fifty five times. At the time, the heroes often lost consciousness on the screen …

Six Golden Globe nominations

He was nominated four times for an Emmy and its six Golden Globe nominations, he won once in 1970. The only Emmy the series was gleaned for Gail Fisher, who played Peggy, the lovely secretary of Mannix. She is the first African-African to have won recurring roles on the small screen.

Mike Connors was shown in three other series, Tightrope (1959-1960), Today’s FBI (1981-1982) and the docudrama Crimes of the Century (1989), he had made. He also played the war comrade of Robert Mitchum in the miniseries War and Remembrance . In film, he has had small roles in Island in the Sky (1953) with John Wayne and The Ten Commandments (1956) with Charlton Heston. And on TV, we also saw him in The Untouchables, The man that is timely, Love Boat, Walker Texas Ranger.

Of Armenian origin, Mike Connors was actually called Krekor Ohanian. He is the cousin of the singer and French-Armenian actor Charles Aznavour.
