Jacques Chirac is still hospitalized, although his wife has recovered enough to be sent home

Jacques Chirac is still hospitalized. But his wife Bernadette is leaving the hospital, just to clarify say the family.

Former President Jacques Chirac, 83, is still hospitalized at the Pitie-Salpetriere in Paris, where he “continues treatment” for his lung infection.  His wife Bernadette left the hospital on Friday night “after four days of rest” , said their son, Frederic Salat-Baroux.

“After four days of rest, Bernadette Chirac left the hospital, Pitié-Salpêtrière on Friday night.  The Former President Jacques Chirac who was admitted to the Parisian hospital last Sunday, “is still hospitalized and continued the treatment and care of his lung infection ” , said the former secretary general of the Elysee.

Mr. Salat-Baroux, who called Wednesday to respect the “tranquility” and “privacy” of the former head of state (1995-2007) and his family in response to insistent rumors about his supposed death, has once again paid tribute to the “competence” and “dedication” of “medical teams, nursing and administrative” Pitié-Salpêtrière. “They are proof, if any were needed, of the exceptional quality and value of the French public hospital service”, he stressed.

The former president was admitted on Sunday morning for treatment of a pulmonary infection. His return from Morocco, where he was staying with his wife Bernadette, was advanced by 24 hours after medical advice. Since then, very little information has filtered about his condition. The announcement of his hospitalization has generated much talk and speculation throughout the week.  The former President of the Republic remains one of the favorite personalities of the French.

Since Tuesday evening the wildest rumors were circulating in Paris, some reports of shots taken by paparazzi and showing the Chirac family outside, weeping, from the hospital.

There are some days, after the publishing of a message to Christine Boutin on Twitter announcing the death of the former head of state had also led to a backlash from the family of Jacques Chirac to “ask to respect” their “peace” .

Christine Boutin, after got stuck in his explanations, finally withdrew his tweet at the end of the week.

Since leaving the Elysee Palace in May 2007, Mr. Chirac, who suffered a stroke in 2005, has been hospitalized several times. As each of his hospitalization, his previous stay at the Pitié in December 2015 for “weakening” had the opportunity to rumors.
