She was the first woman in the world to have had a face transplant. Isabelle Dinoire died on April 22 “following a long illness”, said the University Hospital of Amiens, confirming a report in Le Figaro .

In a statement, the University Hospital confirmed the death of “Madame D., first patient in the world who received a facial transplant performed by Professor Devauchelle and his teams 27 November 2005”.

“Last winter, she suffered another graft rejection and lost part of the use of her lips,” says Le Figaro .

In November 2005, the young woman then aged 38 was attacked by her Labrador.The operation performed several months later, at the University Hospital of Amiens, was a world first.
