Wednesday, 13th April, in the early afternoon, rue des Déportés Résistants in Chateaubriant, flames sprang from engine of a Volkswagen.
This afternoon, Wednesday, 13th April, he was barely 15 minutes, at the traffic lights of the old Chateaubriant music school (rue des Déportés Résistants and rue du Maréchal Foch), when the engine of a white Volkswagen Golf, suddenly let go with an escape of thick black smoke. Then flames started to gush from the engine.
Three quarters burnt
Aided by two motorists, the driver managed to push the car to the side of the road. Despite the rapid response of the fire fighters, the flames took hold quickly and three quarters of the car was burnt.
Road needed cleaning because of petrol
Traffic in the area has been disrupted and diversions by the Gendarmerie and the municipal police were put into effect while they awaited for the arrival of the tow truck. According to a witness, “the City departments have also had to clean the floor. They used absorbent material because the charred vehicle continued to pour petrol on the road even once the fire extinguished ” .
