Francois Hollande has announced a referendum is to be held on proposed airport at Notre-Dame-des-Landes

The public will be consulted before October, the date for the start of work at Notre-Dame-des-Landes …

Bogged down for months, the record of Notre-Dame-des-Landes has surely taken a decisive turn on Thursday night. Hours after the announcement of a cabinet reshuffle, the President has indeed officially announced the organization of a local referendum on the new airport project.

A statement confirming the confidences of many environmentalists elected following the appointment of Emmanuelle Cosse (EELV) in the ministère du logement on Thursday afternoon.

“If it is not, the state will have to take the consequences”

“There is a blockage, explains François Hollande.  At one point, we must make a decision. I asked the government to organize, by October, a local referendum to find out exactly what people thought of this project.  If the population is favourable, the project will continue. If not, the state will take the consequences. “The head of state says,” Work is to begin in October, if this is what the results of the referendum indicates. ”

What question and what scope?

François Hollande has not indicated what will be precisely the question to the people, nor what the geographical scope to be consulted. A referendum only in the Loire-Atlantique department would not give the same result as a referendum expanded in the Pays de la Loire or even Brittany.
