It is the couple’s two children, aged 5 and 10 years who were present at the time, who raised the alert, according to initial reports. A search, including the use of a helicopter, was immediately set up to find “the gunman with a long gun and wearing a hooded top” said a source close to the investigation.
According to Sud Ouest, the tragedy occurred around 8:30 am, while the couple was about to take their children to school. Both children managed to escape, one into the surrounding fields and the other inside the house where he hid before calling for help.
The suspect fled in a black Citroen and is still being sought by the Gendarmes.
