Armel Le Cléac'h maintains the gap over Alex Thomson in the Vendée Globe

The two Vendée Globe leaders expect more wind in the coming days, but so far Armel Le Cleac’h still manages to maintain a gap over Alex Thomson …

The two Vendée Globe leaders expect more wind in the coming days. The improvement with the trade winds is expected for Armel Le Cléac’h (Banque Populaire). Despite this, the Briton was able to maintain the distance with Alex Thomson (Hugo Boss), even taking some miles tonight.

They may be the Leaders, but they are the slowest of the fleet! Stuck in a difficult level weather area, the two skippers who fight for victory in the Vendée Globe are not moving, or little. Armel Le Cléac’h ( Banque Populaire ) still leads, expects wind to improve that would lead to the trade winds. For his part Alex Thomson ( Hugo Boss ) has closed the gap slightly, but the Breton is able to maintain a “safe distance” from the Welshman.

With average speeds of 7 knots for both, not surprising in the slowest of the fleet (except Destremeau and Colman who are addressing their technical problems). In the last 24 hours Le Cléac’h traveled 169 miles against 239 for Thomson. Concerns for the wind is not yet known for Beyou ( Maître Coq ) in third. The Frenchman has significantly reduced the gap and now is 714 miles from the leader.
