Intense Rain, Hail and Gusts of up to 100km/h: Storms Return, nine departments on orange alert this Monday

After a slight lull this weekend of the 22nd and 23rd August 2026, the storms are back for the last week of August 2026. And it starts on Monday, with alert warnings in place.

If the sun is out in a large part of France this Sunday 23rd August 2026, there is no question of getting too fond of it, Météo-France immediately warns in its latest bulletin. Indeed the sky is becoming more and more threatening throughout the afternoon, until thunderstorms simply burst from the early evening.

A taste of what awaits us at the start of the week, finally. A stormy disturbance is looming from Monday 24th August 2026 morning, with its share of associated vigilance. Météo France has already placed nine departments in orange for this Monday:

Which departments are on alert?

It is through the west of France that this new rain-storm degradation enters the territory from Sunday 23rd August 2026 afternoon. As a result, the sky initially thunders over the Pyrenees and the Central massif, while Aquitaine could see hail falling.

Thunderstorms that strengthen and spread

The storms will not stop until Monday unfortunately. As meteorologist Yann Amice indicates, “the low pressure system is restructuring and progressing, with a storm zone stretching towards the northeast, while maintaining a core very violent in the south of the country.

The storms continue their route “through the Rhone corridor, the Var and Corsica”, until stretching over a “good part of the center and east” of France from Wednesday 26th August 2026, continues the specialist.
