Tensions in Dieppe, between Police and Migrants

Police at Dieppe, have reportedly been attacked by migrants in the night from Thursday 3rd to Friday, December 4th, 2015, in Dieppe, where ferries depart for England.

On the night of Thursday 3rd to Friday, December 4th, 2015, police officers were attacked by migrants, reveals the information website Normandie-news. The Compagnie départementale d’intervention (CDI) unit which is based in Rouen, and specializes in policing, has been asked to assist, as the migrants were trying to gain access to the ferry port at Dieppe.

Dieppe is one of the four towns in the Normandy region that offers connections to England by boat.

Two men, aged 19 and 30 years old were arrested. They would seem to be from Iran and Iraq. They were taken to the police headquarters and remanded in custody.

Although most of the focus on the migrants, is focused on the Calais region, in 2014, more than 500 illegal immigrants were arrested in Dieppe for trying to gain access to the ferry port and vehicles trying to cross the Channel..
