At the time of the playground, around 9 am 45, an abandoned bag was spotted on the roof of the courtyard of Emile-Péhant school, in the centre of Nantes. The director contacted the police who called the Bomb Squad.
As they were already working on another suspicious package, on a Metro train, in Rezé, the school was partially evacuated as a precaution.
Because of the delay of the Bomb Squad not being able to arrive immediately, the police did an initial assessment, which revealed that the bag was in actual fact just an old school backpack, which turned out to be empty.
The Police decided that the bomb squad were not needed in this instance and the schoolchildren were able to continue with their school day.
