The A400M military transport aircraft has passed its certification tests for take-offs and landings on grass runways, announced Tuesday Airbus Defence and Space.

The group states that it “successfully completed certification testing of the A400M military transport aircraft of new generation on a grass runway,” in a statement.

Track 1500 metres

“The A400M has demonstrated excellent performance in driving manoeuvres such as U-turns, and during take-offs and landings on the 1,500 metre track,” says Airbus DS.

The tests took place at the aerodrome of Ecury-sur-Coole (Marne) for three weeks in September.

Gravel runways

This was to study the behavior of the device on grass runways. They are the result of tests also took place successfully on gravel tracks in Ablitas Spain.

Other sand track tests will be carried out next year, indicates Airbus.
